Virginia NAACP Condemns ICE Detainment of Immigrants at Chesterfield County Courthouse
The NAACP Virginia State Conference condemns the recent detainment of 14 individuals by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Chesterfield County Courthouse. This incident underscores the alarming trend of targeting immigrant communities and the need for safe spaces for all individuals.
With 1 in 5 immigrants being Black, these detainments disproportionately affect communities of color, instilling fear and deterring access to justice. The Virginia NAACP urges local, state, and federal officials to protect the rights of immigrants and dismantle these unjust practices.
“The Virginia NAACP stands firm in advocating for dignity and inclusivity for all.”, stated Rev. Cozy Bailey, President. “We must create safe spaces and ensure that every individual is treated with respect, regardless of their immigration status. Together, we can foster a community that respects every individual.“
The Virginia NAACP stands in solidarity with the NAACP in demanding the development and implementation of humane, equitable, and orderly border management processes.
