Virginia NAACP Applauds Legislators for Bipartisan Support of Automatic Restoration of Rights Amendment

The NAACP Virginia State Conference (Virginia NAACP) extends its heartfelt gratitude to the legislators who came together across party lines to support HJ2/SJ248, the Automatic Restoration of Rights Amendment. This pivotal legislation marks a significant step towards justice and equality in Virginia, and we commend the commitment of all those involved in this important initiative.

Virginia NAACP President Rev. Cozy Bailey shared the following statement:

The historic significance of HJ2/SJ248 cannot be overstated. This amendment is not just about restoring rights; it is about restoring dignity and faith in our democratic process. Every individual deserves the opportunity to have their voice heard, and this legislation takes us one step closer to achieving that fundamental right for all Virginians. We are grateful to the legislators who recognized the importance of this issue and acted decisively to support it.”

The passage of HJ2/SJ248 is a testament to the power of collaboration and understanding in addressing the needs of our communities. By allowing for the automatic restoration of rights, we are taking a crucial step toward dismantling the barriers that have historically disenfranchised individuals in our state. This amendment will empower countless Virginians to participate fully in our democracy, and it is essential that we continue the momentum to ensure its final passage in the 2026 General Assembly session.

The Virginia NAACP remains committed to advocating for policies that promote equity and justice for all citizens. We urge the community to stay engaged and support continued efforts to ensure that the Automatic Restoration of Rights Amendment becomes a permanent part of Virginia’s Constitution.
