President of the NAACP to Tour Detention Centers at the Border in Laredo, Texas

BALTIMORE — The president of the NAACP, Derrick Johnson, will head to Laredo, Texas on August 5, 2019, to meet with spiritual leaders and tour the city’s detention centers. While there, he will detail his account of events and meet with those that are being held captive. President Johnson is seeking to raise the visibility of the ongoing humanitarian crisis at the border through a civil rights lens, as well as increase support for the mission and work of the Holding Institute, a non-profit community center located in Laredo that is committed to alleviating the cruel and inhumane conditions faced by immigrants.
