The NAACP released the following statement regarding the recent anti-semitic remarks of former Branch President, Jeffrey Dye. On August 30, 2019, The NAACP sent a letter to Mr. Dye suspending his membership and prohibiting him from holding office in the NAACP.
“The NAACP strongly condemns disparaging statements regarding persons of the Jewish faith. Anti-semitic language is extremely disturbing and antithetical to everything the NAACP stands for and has stood for over the past 110 years. As an organization focused on uplifting communities of color and the most vulnerable, we denounce any effort to depreciate another human being for their faith.
Any attempt to present the NAACP as an organization that allows anti-semitism is false and misleading to our core values. We have taken swift and appropriate measures to suspend and revoke all parties involved with spreading hate speech in the name of the NAACP. Hate speech of any form is a deterrent to the progress of social, political, and civil rights.”
