The following statement is from Derrick Johnson, President and CEO of NAACP on the Trump Administration’s decision not to include the controversial citizenship question to the 2020 Census:

“The Trump administration’s decision today to abandon its attempt to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census is a victory for democracy. It is the outcome we have been fighting for all along. The administration deliberately sought to increase the political power of whites at the expense of already underrepresented communities. When the Supreme Court rejected its pretextual justification for the question last week, the writing was on the wall.”

“The Census is too important to be tainted or compromised. It determines our political representation, allocates federal resources, and helps to enforce civil rights laws.  Now, it is time to focus on ensuring an accurate count for all communities. We must all stand up and be counted.”
