NAACP President and CEO, Derrick Johnson, made the following statement regarding the first federal executions in more than 15 years :

“Attorney General William Barr’s new order to reinstate the federal death penalty, after almost two decades, is a mark of regression in a time when our nation desperately needs reform of the criminal justice system. The death penalty is racially biased, inhumane, and risks the lives of innocent people. It should be abolished, not resurrected.”
